Our mission is to encourage and stimulate the practice and appreciation of the Arts among the citizens of Marlboro County and the state of South Carolina.
The Marlboro Arts Council, officially established in February 1970, has served as the leader in coordinating and facilitating community arts events.
For over 30 years, the Council has worked to elevate the quality of life for its constituents by acting as the major presenter of public, professional and community events through its Hometown: 60s and 70s, Young Artist Series, Fall for Marlboro Arts Festival, Children’s Performing Arts Camp and art classes.
The Arts Council is a two time winner of the prestigious Governor’s Award for the Arts – the Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Award. A capital campaign begun in 1998 purchased of the Weatherly-Walker house (circa 1834) as a permanent home for the Arts Council which also provides an artist gallery, classroom space as well as office space.
